On this week’s episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch Krpotich discuss JaVale McGee’s excellent performance as of late, and the impact of the Suns bench unit.
JaVale McGee had a huge game, with 21 points and 15 rebounds, getting the starting spot due to Deandre Ayton missing the game due to illness. His impact on the court has been essential to the team lately, while only spending about 16 minutes on the court per game. The rest of the bench unit has come up big lately, still winning games despite missing Devin Booker and others throughout the year.
Jalen Smith got big minutes in Ayton’s absence as well, and filled up the stat sheet playing the reserve center role. Both big men hit a three during the game, while they both took care of cleaning the glass throughout all 48 minutes. Cameron Johnson has been hot lately, something we’ve been waiting for, while Cameron Payne and Landry Shamet have been solid as well.
A tough week is upcoming for the Suns, with four games in seven days, which starts off with a back-to-back roadtrip against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Portland Trailblazers.
Thanks for tuning in, tune in again next week! Go Suns!
