This week, Mario and Twenty unveil the origin, confirm the meaning, and assess the value of a Piece of Cake.

Corey “Coco” McDonald grew up in St. Louis, Missouri where he was taught at an early age how to bake the perfect cake after watching both his mother (The 1st African American bakery clerk at Kroger Bakery in the state), and grandmother whose cakes were known throughout the city. Coco graduated from and pledged Omega Psi Phi at HBCU Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. This is where he founded Cakes By Coco his senior year after baking cakes for professors, Greek organizations, family and friends. His famous “Chunks” became a regional must-have! He then decided to moved the company to Atlanta in 1996 serving many public figures in film, sports, major corporations and entertainment over the years. Cakes By Coco baked for the 1996 Olympics All Star Team, as well as the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Braves and was voted #1 for Best Desserts by the Atlanta Journal Constitution and has been featured in Atlanta Magazine twice. The bakery spent 3 years in Decatur and 7 in Stone Mountain. In 2015, it rebranded andmopened as COCOCAKES BY COCO in Tucker, which recently celebrated 8 years. In 2022, Corey added another location on the bustling Atlanta Beltline. Corey is married and father of 1 daughter, 1 stepson and Papa “Coco” to 1 granddaughter. With over 30 years in the game and a proven trail of success, Corey is proof that if you take care of your business, your business will take care of you.
