On this week’s episode of the Sunny in PHX Podcast, Charlie Erling and Mitch “Machine Gun” Krmpotich talk about what happened at the Team Option deadline, break down last week’s games against the Kings and Cavaliers, and then look forward to next week’s games.
News hit early Monday morning that the Suns exercised Cameron Johnson’s team option, but chose not to pick up Jalen Smith’s. After drafting Smith #10 overall, it is surprising and disappointing to know he’ll become an unrestricted free agent next year, but the Suns will be in the luxury tax soon, which would make Smith’s contract actually cost a lot more.
The guys break down the buzzer-beating loss against the Kings, and talk about the amazing 50-12 run the Suns went on against the Cavaliers to take control of the game. Deandre Ayton sustained a bruised leg in the game against the Cavaliers, while Cam Payne still remains out with a hamstring injury. Let’s hope the team heals up before this next full week of games.
The Suns take on the Pelicans, Rockets, and the Hawks all at the Footprint Center this week. This looks like a good time for the team to get on track against the struggling Pelicans and Rockets before a game against the solid Hawks. The Suns get the chance for revenge against the Kings in Sacramento Monday.
Thanks for tuning in, see you next week.
