This episode is dedicated to the life and career of the great director Richard Donner. Donner is considered by many to be the architect of the superhero film genre when he directed 1978’s Superman: The Movie. Donner also directed such classics as The Goonies and the Lethal Weapon franchise. Not only is Superman a classic film, but the seriousness with which Donner both the character and the source material is considered the standard for future superhero films.
Geoff Johns is the former CCO of DC Entertainment. In 1997, he started his illustrious career working for Richard Donner, and Johns suggested this episode when he came on the podcast back in Episode 315. Gary Frank is an acclaimed comic book artist who has drawn for both DC and Marvel. His rendition of Superman is considered to be the gold standard and compares with the legendary Curt Swan. Frank was welcomed by Johns to join this tribute to Richard Donner having worked with the legendary director on various Superman comic books.
