Iconic voice actor Cam Clarke makes his second appearance on the show. His first was with his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle co-stars Barry Gordon, Rob Paulsen, and Townsend Coleman (Episode 148). Clarke began his career at six years old on TV’s The King Family Show. Cam’s solo career began in the early 1980s, and he quickly became a prolific voice-over actor, lending his voice to numerous animated series and video games. His most famous role is Leonardo in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He is the favorite villain of numerous fans as Liquid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid games.
Other roles include He-Man in the 2002 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Kaneda in the anime classic Akira, Max Sterling in Robotech, the tween idol Heath Burns in the original Monster High, and, continuing a legacy, Simba in The Lion King franchise.
He comes from a family that has been in the entertainment business for over 100 years. He chronicles his family’s incredible history in a new book, “Now They’re All Here, Over 100 Years of Entertainment From America’s First Family of Song.”
The King Family has been performing together (and with solo careers) since the 1920s: vaudeville, radio, musical films of the 1940s, kitschy sci-fi from the 1950s, tours across the country, recordings in musical genres from jazz and big band to Broadway and pop, even cartoons and video games.
In this episode, Clarke discusses his family’s rich entertainment heritage and how the book tells those stories. He also talks about his iconic career, spending particular time on He-Man, The Tick, and the 1990s animated Spider-Man series, where he played Mr. Fantastic.
