Julie DiCaro is the writer of a new book entitled, “Sidelined: Sports, Culture, and Being a Woman in America. She is currently a senior writer /editor at Deadspin. She is also the host of a podcast with Jane McManus entitled, “Ladies’ Room.”
Julie’s journey into the sports media business began when she left a law practice. There, she became a reporter for the Chicago Tribune. Ultimately, she moved to radio, including WSCR “The Score” in Chicago. She often writes and talks about the treatment of women in and around sports. Issues she has covered are casual sexism, condescending coverage of women’s pro sports, to more serious issues, like athletes who abuse their partners and face only minimal consequences. A big part of the conversation dealt with what she faces on social media, and how she hasn’t left it despite being tempted to.
