WARNING: Do not listen to this episode unless you have seen the 2026 Star Wars/Disney+ release “Maul: Shadow Lord” or do not mind hearing key plot points.
Maul: Shadow Lord is an 8-episode animated series set in the Star Wars timeline. It takes place after the events of The Clone Wars and is before Maul’s appearance in Star Wars: Rebels. Maul used to be known as Darth Maul, an apprentice of Darth Sidious in 1999’s Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Maul has also appeared in the live-action film Solo. Get all that?
JC Reifenberg, the Hall of Justice Star Wars Insider, rejoins the podcast to discuss this animated series. It introduces new characters including Brander Lawson and his son Riley, Jedi Master Eeko-Dio-Daki and his apprentice Devon Izara. It stars Sam Witwer, Dennis Haysbert, Richard Ayoade, and Hall of Justice veterans Vanessa Marshall (ep. 176) and Steve Blum (ep. 103)
In this episode, JC explains why the Empire is so threatening at this point in the timeline. They discuss Maul’s long and complicated history, and where this show fits in.
