This week on In Pursuit of a Parlay:

On this episode of In Pursuit of a Parlay, Chris Horwedel builds an eight-leg World Cup knockout stage parlay using one pick from each of the first eight Round of 32 matches. Rather than chasing the biggest possible payout, Chris focuses on the most likely parlay structure, using odds from oddsmakers and safer knockout-soccer markets like “to advance,” team totals, and game totals.

The show opens with Ivory Coast vs. Norway, where Chris avoids picking a side and instead backs Norway to score at least once behind Erling Haaland, Martin Ødegaard, Alexander Sørloth, Jørgen Strand Larsen, Oscar Bobb, and Antonio Nusa. France vs. Sweden follows, with Chris respecting Sweden’s attacking talent but taking France to advance because of Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, Michael Olise, Bradley Barcola, Marcus Thuram, Rayan Cherki, and France’s tournament depth.

Mexico vs. Ecuador becomes a defensive-profile play, with Mexico’s perfect group-stage defensive record and Ecuador’s midfield quality pushing Chris toward under 3.5 goals. England vs. DR Congo is framed around England’s superior squad and bench, but also DR Congo’s danger after drawing Portugal and beating Uzbekistan, leading to England to advance rather than a spread or regulation bet.

The parlay continues with Belgium vs. Senegal under 3.5 goals, USA to advance over Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain to advance against Austria, and Portugal vs. Croatia over 1.5 goals. Chris explains why knockout games demand safer construction, avoiding overconfidence in favorites like Portugal while trusting France, England, the U.S., and Spain to survive and move on. The final eight-leg parlay lands around plus 254, built as a playable, probability-first World Cup knockout parlay.
